BGSU College of Musical Arts: "Francesca Leo was selected as one of three winners of the CURS Glass Award for her poster presentation at the 2018 BGSU Undergraduate Research and Scholarship Symposium for her research project titled “Playing Without Pain,” an interactive website connecting collegiate musicians with resources to treat and prevent performance-based injury. Francesca Leo is completing her undergraduate degree at Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor’s in Music Performance and a minor in Entrepreneurship. She has studied flute internationally in Quebec, Canada and Paris, France, and has won prizes in many competitions including the COFA Collegiate Division Competitio...n, the MTNA Senior Division Competition, and the Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings Young Artist Competition. An advocate of contemporary music, Francesca has recently recorded Cimmerian Isolation for Flute and Live Electronics by Nathan Haering to be published on the 2017 SEAMUS Conference CD and Naxos. Francesca is a Michigan native and currently holds an internship with Muramatsu America and is the newsletter editor of the Southeast Michigan Flute Association. In addition, she has recently studied musculoskeletal health and wellness and performance-based pain in collegiate music students under a research grant and plans to further develop her research upon graduation from BGSU. The eight finalists in the 57th annual Young Artists’ Competition took the stage at the Yoder Recital Hall in a concert Saturday evening. She was also one of just 20 flutists across America to be accepted to study abroad at the 2016 Da Capo Alliance Paris Flute Class this summer and has won two travel abroad grants to attend the Paris Flute Class from the College of Musical Arts. Francesca Leo. She is a well-rounded musician pursuing Music Performance. Francesca has performed in the Wind Symphony, Concert band and is a Music Ambassador.
She pays her talent forward in her hometown of Royal Oak, Michigan and in Bowling Green by helping 5th graders decide on their instruments. Francesca has performed at churches, historical museums and in Orchestra Hall in Detroit. Last summer she attended the Aria International Summer Music Academy and has entered numerous competitions.
