Francesca's Private Teaching Philosophy and Experience:
Francesca has been teaching privately for seven years, working primarily with beginning and intermediate flutists. In her lessons, she has her students thoroughly study all of the fundamentals of flute playing through the incorporation of enjoyable pieces before moving onto more advanced repertoire. She believes that learning the fundamentals is an essential part of a student's growth. Francesca likes to have her students select at least one piece of music that they are passionate about and want to learn per month, because she believes that there is no purpose to playing music unless you are enjoying it. As her students progress, she slowly integrates standard repertoire and has them work through all of the Rubank method books, major and minor scales, one etude per week, and one solo piece every two weeks to a month depending on the level of difficulty. She is very attentive to her students' needs and does her best to personalize each student's repertoire to strengthen their weaknesses and showcase their strengths as a musician. Francesca likes to end most of her lessons with sight-reading duets for some ear-training and ensemble experience and to keep the enthusiasm for music alive in her students. She encourages her students to take every audition and performance opportunity available to them and all of her students have received straight 1 ratings on their solos in both the District and State levels of the MSBOA Solo and Ensemble competitions. Her students have also made it into the Michigan All-State Honors Band and are highly involved in their school district's flute choirs and band programs. They have all held a principal position in their school bands and excel in their preparation and performance in every concert and recital they participate in. Francesca has a passion for teaching and supports and encourages her students in every way she can.
